Veterinary jobs have become a more popular occupation. Some sports involving animal like races and pet shows seek the opinions and expertise of the professionals. Veterinary is a subfield of healthcare only for animals because animals also need medical attention like surgery, medicine, and preventative medications. In the United States alone, there are hundreds of thousands of pet owners and horse industries that need veterinary care. Employment in many animal clinics, hospitals, and kennels are expected to increase. Zoos and aquariums in many cities require expert care. You should have a natural affinity for animals and the desire to help them to be in this field.

As described above there are many veterinary jobs that provide superior care for pet owners and other animals within their reach. These jobs include technologists and technicians. These workers work under the supervision of the veterinarians. Regardless of the training and education of technicians and technologists, there seem to be little difference in their duties, that of course depending on the employers’ assignments. In some cases the veterinary technicians work in private clinics for their practice while the veterinary technologists are often involved in research related tasks. But both relatively hold office and clinical duties under the direction of the veterinarian. Technologists and technicians may carry out basic medical tests, including treatment and diagnosis of the animal’s condition.

Veterinary technologists and technicians also perform test for blood, urine, and provide assistance in dental and preparation of urine and blood samples in clinics. They may even take x-rays and other imaging diagnostics and proved special nursing care for some animals. Moreover, highly experienced technologists may train a newbie technologist. Some technologists and technicians have specialized fields such as dealing with small animals only, and some may be involved with large animals like horses, cows, donkeys, and pigs.

Veterinary jobs like technologists and technicians usually work in hospitals and clinics; they may also work in research facilities directly under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. With these responsibilities, they also prepare lab exams for the animals and administer medications, and record information including diet, food, pain, and other information of an animal. Some technicians and technologists may also perform tasks such as sterilizing surgical and lab equipment and carry out after surgery care. They also vaccinate animals for disease prevention. These are the goals of the vet technicians and technologists; to promote the health of the animals and research new procedures. Some technicians and technologists also work as sales representatives for pharmaceutical companies.

Veterinary jobs such as veterinary technicians and technologists are required to have a 4 year educational program for technologists and a 2 year formal education for technicians in accredited veterinary schools in the United States. High school student who wish to pursue this type of jobs must take courses in biology, math, and science. A state exam for both technologists and technicians is also a requirement. Good communication skills are important as well. The outlook for these jobs is excellent and more jobs are waiting to be filled until the year 2020 due to replacements of retired workers and increasing demands for animal healthcare. Many are paying top dollar for premium animal care as more and more people are conscious of their pet’s welfare. There are many jobs in zoos and aquariums including theme parks where animals run the show.

The veterinary technicians and technologists enjoy a fairly high annual average salary. The latest vet technologist and technicians salary ranges from $30,000 up to $45,000. The research facilities workers can expect higher salary than those working in private clinics.
